Orville Hendrickson

Orville Melvin Hendrickson, surrounded by loved ones and his dog, Annie, passed peacefully into his maker’s arms on July 21, 2014.

He was born May 10, 1928 to Edward and Anna (Makala) Hendrickson in Port Angeles.

He married Beverly Cays in 1950. They had three children, Linda (Dave) Keyte, Joanne (Martin) Murray, and Melvin (Cherie) Hendrickson. His grandchildren are Jennifer, Brian, Selena, Danielle, Taria, and Lauren.

He married Grace “Loni” L. Bacon in 1995. Loni had one daughter, Tina (Tim) Gauthun and gave him two granddaughters, Jasmine and Holly.

Orville and his father started an auto repair business in 1949. Orville sold his share in 1954 after working in Alaska for a couple of summers. He served in the Marines for two years during the Korean War.

He started a construction company, O.M. Hendrickson and Company, and later Melco INC. He built his construction company into one of the largest construction companies on the Olympic Peninsula. Some of his local projects were Hellen Haller Elementary School, Sequim City Hall, Sequim Fire Station, Sherwood Village Assisted Living Home, 5th Avenue Lodge, John Wayne Marina Administration Building, Bank of America banks in Sequim, Port Angeles, and Port Townsend, Sequim Village Center, Key Bank, First Federal bank, Hamilton Elementary School, Fairview Elementary School, Roosevelt Middle School, Port Angeles Post Office, Sequim Library, and many more buildings across Western Washington. He retired in 1992 and started Hendrickson Mobile Estates.

He loved hiking, camping, hunting, fishing, flying, boating, and traveling. His love of finely engineered automobiles lead him to Germany where he purchased several of his cars.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and brother, Donald.

A private graveside service was held.
