Ready for some winter sports action?

Matt Schonwald, a certified ski-mountaineering guide, hosts “Avalanche Awareness,” a presentation set for 7-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at the Red Lion Inn’s main ballroom, 221 N. Lincoln St., Port Angeles.

At the free event, Schonwald — also a certified avalanche instructor with the American Avalanche Association and founder of BC Adventure Guides — discusses avalanche phenomena, decision-making strategies and basic safe travel techniques as well as weather and avalanche conditions unique to the Olympic Mountains. In addition, he will talk about the Northwest Avalanche Center’s role in tracking weather and avalanche forecasting.
