Avalanche Keeps Rolling: hoops squad takes third

The Olympic Avalanche, a select girls basketball team with players from the North Olympic Peninsula, took third at the Seattle Youth Basketball Halloween Tournament at Auburn-Riverside High School in Auburn last weekend.

The Avalanche topped EBC 29-15 in game one, with Hannah Reetz scoring six points off the bench and Kalli Wiker of Sequim getting four points and key rebounds. The Avalanche won game two, 37-24, against Puyallup. Courtney Swan led the team with seven points and Wiker added six.

Olympic fell to Bellevue FOH in the semifinal, but came back to top EBC once again, 30-11, in the consolation final. Emilia Long led the team with nine points.

“We played outstanding team defense all weekend but this was our best effort,” coach Joe Marvelle said following the tourney.

Long and Swan were named to the All-Tournament Team.
