North Kitsap dominated a home-and-away match-up with Sequim last week.
On March 19, Viking pitcher Aaron Groetsch tossed six innings, giving up one unearned run and striking out six in a 7-1 NK victory in Poulsbo. Brayden White had both of Sequim’s hits.
The Wolves reached base six times, with Logan Doyle and Zeke Schmadeke each drawing walks and Ayden Holland and Ethan Staples hit by pitches. Lincoln Bear scored the lone Wolves run.
Staples got the start for the Wolves, going four innings and giving up five hit and three runs; he struck out four and walked three. Bryant Laboy and Bear tossed two innings of relief, giving up a combined four hits and three runs while striking out two.
Groetsch, Spencer Gillespie and Dawsyn Anderson each drove in two runs for the Vikings.
On March 21 in Sequim, the Vikings jumped all over SHS pitchers for seven runs in the first inning en route to an 11-1 win in five innings.
“We didn’t boot the ball around; they came out and hit the ball,” SHS coach Dave Ditlefsen noted.
Sequim got on the board for its lone run in the first inning, with Hunter Tennell hitting an RBI single. SHS’s other hits were a double by Holland and single by Laboy.
Looking ahead
Sequim was scheduled to play at Kingston on March 26; results were not available at press time. The Wolves are at 1A Coupeville on March 27 and host Kingston on March 28. During the spring break week, Sequim plays a non-league contest at Mount Tahoma on April 5. and gets back into Olympic League play April 9 at Port Angeles, before hosting Port Angeles on April 11
