Sequim High’s baseball squad posted three convincing wins in as many games last week to start the 2014 campaign.

On March 18, Sequim battered visiting Foster Bulldog pitchers for 10 runs in a mercy rule-shortened, 10-0 win in five innings.

Brett Wright went 4-for-4, Nigel Christian was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and Daniel Harker was 2-for-2 with three RBIs in the win. Nick Johnston was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI.

Harker picked up the victory on the mound, striking out four and giving up just one hit and one walk in three innings.

Zach Rigg and Christian each pitched scoreless innings in relief, with Christian striking out three batters.

Sequim jumped out to a five-run lead after one inning and 9-0 advantage through two innings.

Foster committed six errors; the Wolves, none.

One day later, Johnston struck out nine Redskins and the Sequim Wolves erupted for another double-digit win as they crushed Port Townsend 14-1 in five innings.

Dylan Lott paced the offense with four singles in four at-bats, scoring all four times. Johnston was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Evan Hurn was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Harker had a triple. Wright and Dusty Bates walked in all three plate appearances; Bates scored three runs.

In all, Port Townsend pitchers walked nine Wolves and the Redskin defense committed nine errors.

Johnston was sharp on the mound, giving up one single and two walks in his five innings of work, throwing 37 of his 61 pitches for strikes.

Sequim capped the week with a 10-5, non-league road victory against perennial 1A powerhouse Chimacum.

The Wolves gave up three runs in the first inning but responded with three runs in the second, a run in the third, two in the fourth and three in the fifth.

Christian was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI, Wright had three hits and two steals, James Thayer had two hits and a double, and the Wolves got RBIs from Harker, James Grubb and Chris Whitaker.

Despite giving up four runs, Christian picked up the win on the mound. Lott, Rigg and Tanner Rhodefer each pitched scoreless innings. Lott struck out all three batters to close out the seventh.

The Wolves were slated to host Kingston on March 24.

Sequim is at North Kitsap on March 26 and at Klahowya on March 28 before their spring break, the first week of April.
