The Red Lion Hotel Port Angeles recently launched a Basecamp Adventure Talk series to showcase the many outdoor activities and locations that can be explored on the Olympic Peninsula throughout the summer.

The talks take place 6-7 p.m. each Friday at the hotel, 221 N. Lincoln St. Talks are free and open to the public, and light hors d’oeuvres are included. Happy hour Basecamp drink specials also are offered.

“The objective of these talks is to help more people learn about exploring the far Northwest part of our country,” said Hannah Hooper, general manager of the Red Lion Hotel Port Angeles.

“They’ll be informative but also a lot of fun. We also hope to remind people about the central location of our Port Angeles property — it truly is a fantastic base camp for adventure on the Olympic Peninsula.”

The talks touch on various adventure options available to travelers visiting the peninsula. Speakers include ecologists, tour guides, storytellers, filmmakers, historians, fishermen and mountaineers.

• July 26, Puget Sound Cooperative Colony. Speaker: Kathy Monds, Clallam County Historical Society

• Aug. 2, Year-round fishing on the Olympic Peninsula. Speaker: Pat Neal, columnist and fishing guide, Peninsula Daily News

• Aug. 9, Mountaineering on the Olympic Peninsula. Speaker: Tyler Reid, guide, Pacific Alpine Guides

• Aug. 16, Navigating the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Speakers: Tammy Harmon and Terry Messenger, terminal managers, Expeditions Northwest

• Aug. 23, The Elwha Dam removal and the restoration of the river. Speakers: John Gussman and Jessica Plumb, filmmakers, “The Return of the River”; and Ian Miller, Ph.D., Coastal Hazards specialist, Coastnerd

• Aug. 30, Year-round Tourism on the Peninsula. Speaker: Mary Brelsford, communications manager, Olympic Peninsula Visitor Bureau.
