Sequim’s bowling team once again has proven they can hit the lanes and books in equal measure as the Wolves repeated as 2A state academic champions.

The varsity squad of Kimberly Heintz, Cooper Hiatt, Kiera Morey, Joanna Morales, Victoria Nava and Skylar Krzyworz earned a 3.967 grade point average. It was the highest GPA in the league and for all teams in the state, said head coach Randy Perry.

“This group of girls were special,” he said. “(It’s a) very close group.”

This marks the fourth time the program has earned the academic state title, including last season (2023-24), and 2011-12 and 2012-13, all under Perry, who has coached Sequim’s team for 17 seasons now.

In a previous interview, Perry said his bowlers are active in many different activities and hard on themselves athletically and academically. The girls on his teams have even been known to study between games and even frames.

This season, five of the six Sequim bowlers qualified for districts, and two made it to the 1A/2A State Championship at Bowlero in Tukwila.

Nava placed 42nd with a game high 174 in her fifth game, and Krzyworz placed 47th with a game high 154.

Perry said there were more than 100 bowlers participating, which was the most he’s seen at a tournament in years.

Port Angeles as a team took sixth with Zoey Van Gordon placing 20th to lead the team.

Last year, the Wolves earned their first Olympic League title.
