Sequim Lady Wolves bowlers continue to meet their high standards and improve upon them.

At last Saturday’s Silverdale subdistricts four varsity bowlers — Tenille Tosland, Megan McAndie, Karli Furguson and Mikayla Ahlin — qualified for districts, which take place next Saturday in Tacoma.

Tosland, a fill-in alternative with a 110 average, placed 10th in individual standings in the Olympic League with games of 155, 157 and 136.

Sequim did not place for districts as a team, taking fifth in subdistricts.

Coach Randy Perry said the bowlers did the best they’ve done all season while missing two unavailable varsity bowlers (Danyelle Wilson to the Irrigation Festival pageant and Kelsey Van Dyken to SAT testing).

Team captain McAndie said the girls went in with a goal to average 120 a game. McAndie, a junior, said that last year as freshmen most of the team bowled poorly, on average in the 60s.

“Now we’re averaging about 110 but we’re way better than when we started,” she said.

She came into subdistricts averaging 112 and bowled 117, 167 (a new high for her) and 131.

Ahlin echoed McAndie’s sentiment. “The varsity squad continues to get better each year I’ve been a part of the team,” she said.

Ahlin bowled 117, 127 and 138 to qualify and Furguson 122, 149 and 125.

Just missing the cut, Kaitlyn Jackson bowled 100, 61 and 136 filling in on varsity.

The team bowled 611, 661 and 666 (all-year highs) and in Baker games (the team bowls two frames) 115, 122, 109 and 101.

Perry said the girls’ continued goal is to have their best series ever, which they did last year at districts. Last year, Sequim sent five girls, who all bowled their highest games ever but none moved onto state.

“Out of our league you have to average 120 to move on to districts and average 165 to go on to state,” Perry said.

Sequim finished the season in Port Angeles’ Laurel Lanes against second-place Olympic, 9-3, on Jan. 17.

Sequim Lady Wolves bowlers finished with a record of 2-9-1 in fourth place ahead of North Mason. Their team average is 102 with a series average of 514.

This year the team saw its largest turnout with 16 girls.

Perry said due to a busy week with meets twice week and Sequim Olympic Lanes being closed on Mondays the team can only practice on Wednesdays and on occasional Saturdays. To compensate, during meets, bowlers often play a handful of practice rounds for more experience.
