Boys basketball: Loss sends Sequim to Saturday tiebreaker vs. Olympic

The playoffs are stating a little early for Sequim’s boys basketball squad … kind of.

The Wolves battled hard for three quarters against the Port Angeles Roughriders — even taking a brief lead in the third quarter — before a devastating 25-3 run in the fourth quarter helped the host Riders pull away from a 57-32 win.

The loss in the Olympic League finale dropped Sequim (6-6 in league, 11-9 overall) into a tie for fourth place with Olympic, and forces a tiebreaker with Olympic’s Trojans (6-6, 8-12).

Sequim and Olympic vie for the league’s final district berth at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8, at Port Townsend High School.

The Wolves and Trojans split match-ups this season, with Sequim edging Olympic 51-49 in Sequim on Jan. 10 and the Trojans routing Sequim 58-41 in Silverdale on Feb. 4.

Against No. 7-ranked Port Angeles, Erik Christiansen had nine points and Isaiah Moore added eight, but in in the end it wasn’t enough to keep the more physical Riders (10-2, 15-5).

Dru Clark led Port Angeles with 15 points.
