Boys basketball: Timberwolves cap season at 7-3

Sequim Middle School’s boys varsity squad finished their season with a loss against their Port Angeles rivals, but still managed a 7-3 mark for the 2012-2013 campaign.

Stevens edged Sequim 36-27 on Jan. 28.

"We played hard, but their big guys inside were tough to stop," coach Kris Henrikson said.

Sequim’s most recent victory was a 40-34 win at Chimacum on Jan. 24. Dylan Lott led the Timberwolves with 13 points and Tim Tyler added 10 points. Patrick McCrorie led the team in assists while James Thayer and Tyler led the team in rebounding.

Lott sank a key free throw and Chimacum missed a near full-court shot at the buzzer to preserve the Sequim win.

Chimacum held a six-point lead at halftime but Sequim turned a corner in the third quarter, Henrikson said.

"Our press break created some turnovers and easy baskets to bring us right back into the game," he said.

"This was one of those gut-check games. I’m very pleased to see our kids respond when we needed them to and come away with a win. Now, hopefully we can gain some bigger leads in our next few games, so that my blood pressure won’t be so high."

Sequim earned a similar win, taking on and beating Neah Bay 52-50 on Jan. 14.

Lott led all scorers with 28 points while Thayer, Tyler and Jake Sparks battled tough inside. Tyler added 10 points and Sparks had eight points. McCrorie led the team in assists.
