This wasn’t the ending they were hoping for, but Sequim’s boys basketball squad capped their season on a positive note with a three-game win streak last week.

Nate Despain led Sequim’s Wolves with 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting in a 56-40 win over Coupeville’s Wolves on Feb. 2, SHS’s second win against the Whidbey Island foes in four days.

The big win helped SHS seniors Devin Greenlow (12 points) and Konnor Parrish (two points, two rebounds) finish their prep careers on a win streak.

“We’ve been moving the ball and working well as a team the last few games,” Greenlow said.

“Good way to end it,” Parrish said.

Sequim finishes 1-11 in Olympic League play and 5-15 overall. After opening the season with a non-league win against Chimacum, the Wolves suffered through seven- and eight-game losing streaks interrupted by a non-league win over Tenino.

Last week, they rebounded with a win at Coupeville on Jan. 30, a home win against league rival North Mason and another win against Coupeville.

“Good to get a win, finish the season strong like that,” Sequim coach Greg Glasser said.

“I’m really proud of our seniors,” Glasser said. “Devin really made some great strides this year … and Konnor is a guy we could count on.”

Despite a tough season in the win-loss column — Sequim finishes with their lowest win total since the 2005-2006 season, when they also tallied five victories — Greg Glasser said he’ll have good memories of the campaign.

“These seasons go by so fast. You hope you can make fond memories of a great game you all love,” he said

“The thing I’ll miss the most is being around the guys — great, quality guys, too.”

In the season finale, Sequim led 17-7 after one quarter and 29-14 by halftime, and were never really threatened. Sequim out-rebounded the visiting squad 34-18 and held Coupeville to just 30 percent shooting.

Kyler Rollness added seven points and a team-high six rebounds.

Payton Glasser, who finished as Sequim’s leading scorer with a 17.3-per-game-average this season, played the part of distributor, dishing out six assists, had four steals and blocked two shots to go with his nine points.

Hunter Smith led Coupeville’s Wolves with 15 points while Ethan Spark added 12. Both sank three 3-pointers.

Sequim started the week in the same fashion, blowing out the host Wolves 72-33 on Jan. 30.

Glasser had 21 points and Despain added 15 as all 11 Sequim players found the scoring column.

Glasser was 8-of-17 from the field and Despain 7-of-11, as Sequim shot 56 percent for the game. Rollness had nine points while Parrish and Cameron Welcher added six apiece.

Coupeville, who fell behind 21-6 after one quarter and 35-15 by halftime, committed 24 turnovers. Smith led the host squad with 12 points.

A day later, Sequim got their lone Olympic League win of the season by knocking off North Mason 57-40 at home.

Glasser had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Despain added 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists to lead the way. Rollness sank a pair of 3-pointers and had 10 points, and Riley Cowan added four points and seven rebounds.
