For the Sequim Wolves, it was an odd way to start a season — looking sharp in a loss to Bainbridge on Nov. 27 and showing some rough patches in a win at home against Port Townsend on Friday night.

"First game jitters versus Bainbridge, home game jitters tonight," Glasser said following his team’s 54-36 home-opening win versus the Redskins.

"There are still a lot of things we can do better — we turned the ball over a lot and didn’t shoot the ball particularly well," he said, noting the Wolves’ 22 turnovers. "But we’re going to get better every night."

Hard to get a better first half, though, from senior Gabe Carter, who scored 17 of his game-high 22 points in leading the Wolves to a 29-10 advantage after one half against the Redskins.

Carter finished 9-of-11 from the field — including 4-of-6 from the 3-point stripe — and added six rebounds and four assists. Teammate Jayson Brocklesby added nine points and six steals, five thefts in the first half. 

Erik Christensen had four blocks and seven rebounds.

"It’s good to see Gabe coming out shooting the ball well, but he’s still looking to make the extra pass."

Three days earlier, Sequim (1-1) kept up with the bigger Metro League Bainbridge squad before having to foul late. Down just six points entering the fourth quarter, Sequim wound up on the short end of an 84-67 decision.

Bainbridge, led by Joey Blacker’s 24 points, hit 9-o-f-16 from 3-point range.

Brocklesby had a big night for Sequim in the team’s season opener, hitting five 3-pointers in seven tries and finishing with 23 points. 

Roy Kallappa had 20 points and Carter chipped in eight rebounds and six assists.
