Good to be back.

In his first game of the 2014 season, Sequim High senior Lijah Sanford notched the fourth of Sequim’s four goals in a 4-2 win at Port Townsend on March 25.

Thomas Winfield opened the scoring at 10 minutes off an Adrian Espinzoa throw-in and the Wolves (3-2 in league and overall) went up 2-0 at the 27-minute mark when Brandon Payne scored off a Ron Welches feed.

Port Townsend halved the score via a penalty kick at 33 minutes, but Sequim added a score just before the half when Nick Baird notched a score off an Eli Berg assist.

At 72 minutes, Sanford took a corner kick from Baird and netted his first score and a 4-1 Sequim advantage.

“(Sanford) is a real good field leader, vocal, (with) good soccer sense,” Sequim coach Dave Brasher said.

Port Townsend managed a score in stoppage time.

Brasher noted Berg and Baird did a good job controlling Daniel Charlton and Max Meier, two of Port Townsend’s better players.

“I thought that was our best game of the season so far,” Brasher said.

The match was the Wolves’ final game before their spring break, and put Sequim in fourth place overall.

The Wolves are off until April 8, when they travel to Belfair for a matchup with 1-5 North Mason. Sequim plays at winless Olympic on April 10 before hosting league-leading North Kitsap on April 12, a 12:45 p.m. Saturday special.
