Sequim didn’t get the result it was searching for — an upset of Olympic League-leading North Kitsap, but the Wolves did show improvement against the 10-1-0 Vikings in 2 -0 home loss on April 25.
“It was not our best game, but we played good enough to give ourselves a chance and try to get a positive result,” Sequim coach Juan Carlos Cisneros said.
“Especially in the first half, where we matched and at times exceeded better play than North Kitsap.”
A pair of Wolves’ mistakes led to Viking goals.
“Unfortunately for us we had a few bad decisions by our players, especially one where we gave them a penalty in the first half,” Cisneros said. “It could have been avoided.
“Even with that setback, we defended well and created chances when we attacked.”
Sequim conceded the second Viking goal on a poor clearance that found the feet of the opponent right on top of the 6-yard box,” Cisneros said.
”We lost our composure there at the end and we were not able to mount a comeback. Credit North Kitsap; they out played us in the second half,” he said.
Sequim then dropped a 10-0 decision at home to league powerhouse Bainbridge, a 3A school, on April 27.
The Wolves have improved this season, but they were no match for the league-leading Spartans.
“Bainbridge is a well-organized team that is hungry and it showed by their performance,” Cisneros said. “We could not match their level of play.”
Sequim (4-8) was scheduled to play at Bremerton on May 2 — results were not available at press time.
The Wolves cap the regular season at home on Thursday, May 4, against Kingston.
