In their first two games of the 2017 season, Sequim left little doubt they’ll be able to score.

The Wolves torched Olympic’s Trojans 11-1 on March 14, getting four scores from Liam Harris and while Josiah Urquia and Mike McAleer added two scores apiece.

Konner Parrish and Adrian Funston also netted goals in the victory.

“I wanted to try some things,” Sequim coach Dave Brasher said, “but it ended up being so one-sided I basically put in lineups to not run up the score too much. We didn’t get to work on any defense at all.”

Sequim’s junior varsity squad made it a sweep, topping the JV Trojans 6-2.

Two days later Sequim got a much tougher test, giving up three first half goals before settling for a 5-5 tie against Fife of the South Puget Sound League.

Harris had another hat trick, scoring one in the first half and two more in the second. Addie Berg had a first-half score and Evan James notched a goal in the second to earn the draw.

Fife was a state 2A tournament qualifier last season, placing second at districts.

“That was a good test for us in the early season,” Brasher said.

The Sequim coach noted the Wolves’ defensive crew is relatively inexperienced and missing starter Patrick McCrorie who will be out another couple of games.

“Going in I was anticipating having to win games like that,” Brasher said. “(It was) more important to get the league win right off the bat.”

Sequim’s JV squad also earned a draw with Fife, a 3-3 stalemate.

Looking ahead

Sequim was slated to play at North Mason on March 21. The Wolves host North Kitsap on March 24 and Forks, a non-league 1A foe, on March 27, at Peninsula College.

“North will be a good test,” Brasher said.
