Roughrider swimmers and divers added to their winning streak against the Wolves last week, but unlike previous seasons Sequim athletes made their hosts sweat.

Port Angeles topped Sequim 106-77 in the final league meet of the season on Jan. 17, the closest battle between the teams since the 2007-2008 campaign.

The Roughriders earned victories in all but two of the 12 events for their 13th consecutive win over their peninsula counterparts; Sequim’s last win versus P.A. came in the 2003-2004 season. Sequim dropped a 135-50 meet to the Riders last season.

The Wolves’ Steve Dewey won the 100 free and Austin Clement took top honors in diving for Sequim’s individual event wins.

Sequim’s Eric Prosser finished the 100 butterfly in 1:08.12 to qualify for districts while teammate Brandon Grow trimmed nine seconds off his personal best in the event.

Logan Hankinson swam the 200 free and 100 backstroke for the first time in competition last week. 

"He is showing great promise as a competitive swimmer," Sequim coach Linda Moats said.

Jerod Hollen finished second in the 100 free, cutting seven seconds off his previous best. 

"We are looking forward to our league meet," Moats said. The Olympic League meet is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 29, at Port Angeles’ William Shore Pool. 

Qualifying swimmers and divers compete at the West Central District meet Feb. 8-9 at Hazen High School in Renton, with top athletes from that meet and other automatic qualifiers earning a spot at the state 2A meet Feb. 15-16 in Federal Way.
