With strong finishes at the West Central District meet, a young crew of Wolves swimmers showed some promise for the future.
But Sequim’s season isn’t over yet.
SHS senior swimmer Eric Prosser and freshman diver Matthew Craig are headed to the state 2A finals set for Feb. 20-21 in Federal Way after earning state berths by allocation at the district meet last week.
Prosser shed nearly two seconds off his best 200 individual medley to move up from eighth place seeded time to sixth in the finals, earning a state meet allocation.
Seeded sixth in the 100 backstroke, Prosser maintained his place to earn a second state berth.
Prosser earned his third appearance at the state meet.
Craig, whom Sequim coach Linda Moats called a “relative long-shot” to qualify because of a shortened season and competing in his first season of diving, moved up from a ninth seed to place seventh at districts and earn a state berth.
Moats also had high praise for the Wolves’ 200 free relay team, who improved from a 15th seed up to 12th for the finals and wound up finishing 11th overall.
“Rookie swimmer Chase Ridgway competed at the district level in the prelims, Andy Hansted (also a rookie) competed at the district level in the finals and Charlie Prosser, also a rookie, competed at the district level in both the prelims and finals,” Moats said. “This bodes well for next year.”
