Small, but mighty … and might fast. That’s how Sequim coach Linda Moats sees Kingston after the Buccaneers knocked off Sequim 123-51 at Kingston on Jan. 16. The Bucs won 10 of 12 events in dominating the Olympic League meet.

Sequim’s Eric Prosser proved once again he’s among the region’s top swimmers, earning a district meet-qualifying time in the 100 free and chipping off three more seconds off his 200 IM; he’s now just 5.35 seconds off a state meet automatic qualifying mark.

Sequim’s 200 medley relay team (Prosser, Logan Hankinson, Zak Robinson and Hayes Clawson) earned a personal best by two seconds. Sequim’s Patrick McCrorie won the diving portion of the meet with 123.9 points, while Sequim got varsity dives from Joe Cameron and Tyler Ebert.

Christian Goodrich trimmed 37 seconds off his 500 free time to get under eight minutes, and Zavier Zarit bettered his PR in the 100 backstroke by nine seconds.

“(We) still have a need for improvement in many of the swimmers and some of the divers, but we’re making progress,” Moats said.

Sequim (0-5) hosts Port Angeles on Jan. 24. The West Central District 2A meet is Feb. 14-15 at Hazen High School in Renton.
