Sequim coach Rob Thompson knew it was going to be a rough stretch if the season, facing tough foes Bainbridge, Port Angeles and North Kitsap back-to-back-to-back.

That thought came to fruition, as Port Angeles topped the Wolves in PA 6-1 on Sept. 23 and a dominant NK squad shut out Sequim (2-4) on Sept. 24.

Port Angeles won all of its doubles matches in straight sets.

“It was nice to see the guys come out ready from the first point,” PA coach Brian Gundersen said.

Lincoln Bear picked up SHS’s lone victory, defeating Sky Gelder 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.

Gundersen singled out No. 3 singles player Garret Buerer as his player of the match after Buerer edged Sequim’s Mason Rapelje 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.

NK’s Vikings proved to be another tough match-up, losing just six total points in six of the seven matches. The closest match came at No. 3 singles, where Rapelje nearly forced a third set in a 6-2,7-6 loss to Finn Gallagher-Zapf.

A Sept. 26 home match against Bremerton was postponed because of rain.

Sequim is at Kingston on Oct. 1; results were not available at press time.

Looking ahead

Sequim is at North Mason on Oct. 3 before hosting Bainbridge on Oct. 7.

The Wolves are at Olympic on Oct. 9 before hosting Port Angeles on Oct. 10 and North Kitsap on Oct. 15.

Sequim closes out the regular season Oct. 17 at Bremerton.

The Olympic League tournament is Oct. 25-26 in Poulsbo.
