The powerhouse in this league remains clad in purple and gold — only the power has moved west.

In a match-up of perennial league title contenders, Sequim knocked off North Kitsap 5-2 on Sept. 19, sweeping the singles play and getting two hard-fought wins in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches.

Sequim’s top singles player Donovan Lee needed three sets to top Vikings ace Andrew Leicht, 5-7, 7-5 and 6-2, while Sequim’s Isaiah Dewan topped Zach Kuntz in straight sets (6-0, 6-4). Victor Lam topped Viking Matt Cragg 6-4 and 7-6 (7-5) for a win in No. 3 singles.

The Wolves’ Brandon Payne and Matthew Richards clinched the win with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 win in No. 1 doubles action against C.J. Butler and Gus Cardoso, and Eli Berg and Saul Nava beat NK’s Nate Foster and Casey Hanson in straight sets.

North Kitsap won a previous match against Sequim, a 4-3 non-leaguer on Sept. 7.

With the win, Sequim improved to 3-0 in Olympic League play and 6-1 overall.

Sequim is at Chimacum tomorrow, Sept. 26, and hosts Bremerton on Oct. 1.

Taking down the Trojans

The Wolves defended their home courts in a 6-1 win against Olympic on Sept. 17, with Lee, Dewan and Lam each picking up straight-set singles victories.

Sequim’s Kevin Cassal and Dan Willis won a three-set thriller in doubles play, edging Trojans John Balbas and Shamar Hodges 6-1, 6-7 (5-7) and 10-4.
