Need a little extra motivation to get across that finish line?
Organizers of the third 5k Zombie Mud Run at Peninsula College are designing a course that will raise some heart rates, along with funds for student athletes.
Set for Saturday, May 7, on the Peninsula College campus, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles, the event features a number of obstacles to challenge all, including a 14-foot-high climbing wall, zombie-infested mud pits, water tank, crawls, over-unders and the race’s signature 65-foot waterslide to the finish line.
The all-ages event sees proceeds benefitting college athletic scholarships.
“You do not have to be, ‘in it to win it’ to enter these races,” said Jeremiah Johnson, athletic activities coordinator. “Simply come enjoy a day of challenging obstacles, crawling through the mud and running away from the undead.”
The adult course consists of seven zombie zones and 12 challenging obstacles. Food and beverages will be available for purchase on site from local venders.
Day-of signups and registration begin at 8:30 a.m. on race day, with the first race at 9:30 a.m.
The run, organizers says, features something for everyone:
• A full mud run obstacle race for competitive division (ages 15 and up), with a 1 p.m. start
• A full mud run obstacle youth race (ages 8-14), with a 9:30 a.m. start
• Slides and small obstacles for little creepy crawlies (ages 7 and under), with an 11:30 a.m. start
Start times are tentative, based on when racers in prior divisions complete the course.
The entry fee (see below) includes an official Pirate Zombie T-shirt, admission and timing chip.
Racers are asked to check in one hour prior to their race to receive a timing chip.
Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers, first, second and third place in their division.
Race fees:
$40 for ages 15 and above
$30 for individuals ages 8-14
$10 for children ages 7 and younger
