Eight players from Peninsula College helped the Northwestern Athletic Conference North-East All-Stars beat the South-West squad 5-1 on Nov. 13. Peninsula’s Cesar Gervacio, the MVP of the North-East Region, and Salvador Vargas each had a goal in the match played before the NWAC Women’s Championship, which Peninsula won in overtime against Highline.
Peninsula men — Gervacio, Vargas, Demar Stewart, Juan Carrillo, Jason Ramos, Jose Soto, Marlon Nava and goal-tender Brannon Dwyer — were named to the All-Star team. It also was coached by Peninsula head coach Cale Rodriguez. The Peninsula men went 16-1-2 this season and lost in the NWAC quarterfinals to Tacoma on penalty kicks. Tacoma (15-2-5) went on to win the NWAC championship, beating Spokane 2-1 Nov. 13 in the title game.
“I thought PC was well represented with eight nods and two players getting goals,” said Rodriguez. “Credit to all the players for taking advantage of the opportunity to showcase their abilities … Lastly, having gone undefeated all season long, I wanted to make sure my team came out on top at the end. It was nice to finish the season on a positive note with a win.”
