From javelin throwing to relay racing to the baseball and softball diamonds, Sequim High grads were making their marks across the country at various levels of collegiate athletics.

Here’s a recap of Wolves competing this spring season for their respective colleges and universities:

Alex Barry, a freshman at Western Washington University, wound up placing fourth in the javelin at the Greater Northwest Athletic Conference Championships and 14th at the NCAA II Championships. His season-best throw of 201 feet 8 inches at the Ralph Vernacchia Track and Field meet is seventh-best in WWU history and 19th in GNAC history. For his efforts, Barry (SHS, 2015) was named the conference’s Male Freshman of the Year, only the second Viking to do so.

Elise Beuke, a freshman at the University of Washington, saw her Second Varsity Eight team take third place and the UW women place fifth overall at the NCAA Division I championships on May 29. Beuke (SHS, 2015) and her team took second in their race and UW third overall at the Pac-12 championships, held May 14-15.

Brendon Carpenter, a senior midfielder playing for the Central Washington University lacrosse team, had five goals and three assists this spring. The Wildcats play in the Pacific Northwest Collegiate Lacrosse League Division II and finished 4-5 this season. In four seasons, Carpenter (SHS, 2013) tallied 15 goals and five assists.

Frank Catelli, a senior at the University of Washington, finished his college track and field career with a 28th-place showing in the shot put at the NCAA West Regionals in late May (SHS, 2012). Catelli’s throw of 58 feet, 2 inches wasn’t quite enough to advance him to the NCAA Division I championships. He placed sixth in the shot put at the Pac-12 championships with a personal-best throw of 61 feet, 6.75 inches. Catelli also took 14th in the discus (161-3).

Dylan Chatters is a sophomore for the Westminster College Griffins’ (Salt Lake City, Utah) track & field team. He (SHS, 2014) finished the spring season at the RMAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in early May with a 24th-place finish in the 100-meter dash, 30th in the 400-meter dash and was part of Westminster’s 4×400 relay squad that placed seventh overall in 3:21. The Griffins compete at the NCAA Division II level.

Adrian Clifford, a junior at Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore., raced to a seventh-place finish in the 10,000-meter race at the Northwest Conference Championships in April; his 34:01 finish was a season-best. Clifford (SHS, 2013), who also competes in cross country at Linfield, finished the campaign with a season-best 16:02 mark in the 5,000 meters and 2:08 in the 800 meters.

Mikey Cobb, a freshman at North Central North Central College in Naperville, Ill., set a personal best in the 10,000 meters with a 32:36 finish at the Dr. Keeler Track & Field Meet on May 12 and a 15:42 mark in the 5,000 meters in early April. Cobb (SHS, 2015) and the Cardinals compete at the Division III level.

Hannah Hudson, a sophomore at Olympic College, joined Port Angeles High grad Jolene Millsap to earn a third-place relay finish in the 4×400 relay at the Northwest Athletic Conference track and field championships, held May 23-24. Hudson (SHS, 2014) placed seventh in her preliminary heat of the 400-meter race. The Rangers finished seventh as a team. Hudson, also a volleyball standout for Olympic, is set on hitting the court in the fall at Menlo College in Atherton, Calif.

Nick Johnston, a sophomore at Edmonds Community College, helped the Tritons to a 27-16 mark this spring. A southpaw used mostly out of the bullpen, Johnston was 2-1 with a 2.23 earned-run average in 16 games this season. He struck out 23 and walked 10. Johnston (SHS, 2014) will play for the Campbellsville University Tigers, an NAIA program, in Campbellsville, Ky., next fall.

Jasmine McMullin, a junior at Western Washington University, added the outdoor triple jump title to her indoor title by leaping 38 feet, 9.75 inches at the 2016 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in mid-May. The WWU record holder for indoor triple jump and No. 2 all-time in the outdoor triple jump, McMullin (SHS, 2013)  also took second in the long jump (18 feet, 3 inches) at the conference final.

Rylleigh Zbaraschuk, a junior at Concordia University in Portland, Ore., hit .276 in 53 games for the Cavaliers this season. Zbaraschuk (SHS, 2013) led the team with 10 stolen bases (in 11 attempts) and in sacrifice hits, with nine. Concordia saw their season end at the NCAA Division II Great Northwest Athletic Conference tourney with a loss to Central Washington in late April. The Cavaliers finished 32-23.
