Sequim’s Dawn Hulstedt finished third at the District 3/4 Westside Classic Cross Country meet on Nov. 2, qualifying for the state 2A meet.
Hulstedt finished in a time of 20 minutes, 21.9 seconds, just 39 seconds off the district championship time of 19:42 set by Evelyn Shutske of Bainbridge.
The race was held at the Chambers Creek Center Meadow near Tacoma.
Sequim was seventh in the girls team with 165 points, one place behind Port Angeles (154) and shy of a team berth to the state meet set for Nov. 9 in Pasco.
Hulstedt qualified for the state cross country finals last season but was unable to participate following an injury.
Other SHS girls finishers were Marea Denton in 29th (23:10.3), Bridget “Birdie Pyeatt in 39th (23:59.1), Manuela Valle Jover in 42nd (24:11.9) and Aspen Goldner in 74th (27:38.5).
Sequim’s Adrian Osborne placed 40th (18:28.8) for Sequim’s boys, with teammate Westley French placing 52nd in 19:11.1.
