Cross country: Sequim, Port Angeles split in Belfair

Olympic League meet preview

Not a bad way to tune up for the postseason.

Sequim’s cross country squads got tested by their peninsula rivals as they battled Port Angeles and North Mason in Belfair last week in the final double dual meet of the 2012 season.

Sequim’s boys topped Port Angeles by eight team points (30 to 38, low score wins) to complete an 8-0 campaign while Sequim’s girls (5-3) took second to the Roughriders, falling short by just 11 points, 24 to 35.

Senior Adrian Clifford led the way for the boys with a 17:50 mark for first place, followed by Mikey Cobb in third (17:51) and Peter Ohnstad in fourth (17:51). Freshman Jackson Oliver was 10th overall at 19:14.

On the girls’ side, freshman Emily Webb finished third overall with a 23:05 finish, followed by Siana Turner in fifth (23:09) and Amelia Ohnstad in seventh (23:19).

The Wolves host the Olympic League meet tomorrow, Oct. 18, at The Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course.

The top four teams advance to the West Central District meet at American Lake Golf Course on Saturday, Oct. 27. The top five teams in both races, plus the top 25 girl and 30 boy individuals, earn berths at the state 2A meet, slated for Saturday, Nov. 3, in Pasco.
