Sequim High’s cross country runners saw their first competition of the season this past weekend as they took on racers from 29 other teams at the 25th Bellarmine Invitational in Tacoma on Sept. 14.
In the boys’ varsity race, Adrian Osborne led the SHS pack, placing 79th (11:34.9), in a 2-mile race.
Sequim placed 11th out of 17 teams in the boys’ freshman race, with Westley French (37th, 12:38.3) and Johnathon Tipton (61st, 13:08.3) leading the way in the 2-mile race that featured 92 runners.
Brandon Bair was the top boys JV runner, finishing in 14:10 in the sophomore race.
On the girls’ side, Dawn Hulstedt took 55th (13:44) and teammate Aspen Goldner was 93rd (16:38) in the varsity race.
In the sophomore junior varsity race, Marea Denton took 11th (15:04.6) and Bridget “Birdie” Pyeatt was 13th (15:10.8).
Sequim opens the Olympic League season on Sept. 18 at Kingston. The Wolves are at North Mason on Sept. 25 for their second league meet before hosting an Oct. 2 league meet at the Voice of America course at the Dungeness Recreation Area.
