Port Angeles’ Thomas Shaw edged Sequim’s Reid Parker at the finish line, but Parker’s teammates helped bring the team hardware home.

Sequim Middle School’s boys cross country team placed four runners in the top five places and scored 25 team points to top Stevens of Port Angeles (40 points) and Port Townsend’s Blue Heron (58) at the North Olympic League championships at Port Angeles’ Lincoln Park Oct. 27.

Stevens won the girls’ team title with 20 team points to Sequim’s 36.

Shaw crossed the line of the 3,200-meter race in 12:28 but was soon followed by Sequim’s Parker (12:33), Ryan Tolberd (12:41), Mike McAleer (12:44) and Adrian Funston (12:45). Dallin Despain (13:14) rounded out Sequim’s scorers, placing 11th overall.

Tolberd’s third-place finish was impressive, noted Sequim coach Caleb Gentry, after he and a number of other runners fell in the first third of the race.

On the girls’ side, Jessica Dietzman was Sequim’s top finisher with a 13:38 finish, good for third place. Abby Schroeder (14:16) was sixth, Elenor Bryne (14:19) seventh, Mary McAleer (15:29) ninth and Vita Olson (15:30) 11th to round out the Timberwolf scorers.
