In a meeting of the top prep female cross country runners in two states, Sequim "wolf" Alli Cutting showed she can run with the lead pack.

The high school junior finished the 4,400-meter, Nike-sponsored course in Beaverton, Ore., in 16 minutes, 48.96 seconds, good for eighth place overall.

Hers was the third-best finish among Washington runners, behind state 4A champion Alyssa Andrews of Gig Harbor High School (fifth, 16:44.15) and Shannon Moskowitz of Central Kitsap (seventh, 16:47.70).

For the second meet in a row, Cutting outpaced rival Ruby Roberts of Kingston. Roberts, who finished just behind Cutting in November’s state 2A cross country championship, finished 17th overall with a 17:13.86.

The two became teammates for this race, but Oregon won the challenge with 73 points to Washington’s 98 (lowest point total wins).

Taylor Wallace, the Oregon state 4A champ from Henley High School in Klamath Falls, Ore., won the girls’ title in 16 minutes, 27.47 seconds. On the boys’ side, Andrew Kimpel of North Central High School in Spokane, won the individual title in 14 minutes, 7.30 seconds to help Washington topple Oregon easily, 45 to 144.
