Elks hoop shooters advance to districts

More than 75 boys and girls tried their hand at sinking baskets as part of the annual Sequim Elks Hoop Shoot, held at the Sequim Boys & Girls Club on Friday, Jan. 11.

Each player shot a total of 10 shots, with the top shooters in each of the six age groups advancing to the district shoot, hosted also at the Boys & Girls Club, starting at noon on Saturday, Jan. 26; registration begins at 11 a.m.

Joining Sequim competitors at districts are youths from Aberdeen, Bremerton, Forks, Hoquiam, Ocean Shores, Port Angeles, Port Townsend and Shelton.

Local hoop shoot director Kim Bower said this is one of the best Sequim groups the Elks have sent to districts after seeing four age-bracket winners determined by tie-breaking shoot-offs.

Top district shooters move on to the state competition, set for Feb. 16 in Bellevue. As with each Elk Hoop Shoot event, the top shooter in each age group advances but the runner-up competes if the age group winner is unable to participate.
