Alex Barry, a basketball and track star at Sequim High School, got his outdoor track season at Western off to a strong start with a second place finish at the Saint Martins University Open on April 2.
Barry’s throw of 195 feet, 8 inches earned him second place and an NCAA Division II provisional mark. His effort was just eight inches short of event winner Cole Sunkel of Olympic College — a national USATF junior champion and last year’s state 4A prep javelin champion while at South Kitsap.
While at Sequim High, Barry was an Olympic League MVP in basketball and a standout on the track, earning the Washington state 2A javelin title and helping Sequim’s 4×400 relay team win a title in 2015.
