Hard to get more “perfect” than this.

Sequim High senior Makayla Bentz pitched five perfect no-hit innings striking out 13 of the batters she faced, as the Wolves cruised to an 18-0 win against North Kitsap on March 26.

Playing on Sequim’s field because their own home turf was rained out, North Kitsap’s Vikings were no match for the hard-throwing Bentz, who struck out the side in the first, second and fourth innings. Only a Miriah Guzman dribbler to third base in the third inning and an Erin Nissen ground-out to second base in the fifth kept Bentz and the Wolves from a “no contact” no-hitter.

Bentz was a catalyst at the plate as well, tallying three hits (including a triple) and two RBIs from the leadoff spot. Sister McKenzie Bentz, batting behind Makayala, added a triple and single. Melissa Lewis was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, Olivia Kirsh had three hits and three RBIs, and the Wolves got two hits each from Alexas Besand, Shelby Lott and Mary Lu Clift.

In all, Sequim had 19 hits while the Vikings committed six errors.

The Wolves scored 11 of their runs in the second inning to put the game away.

With Makayala Bentz getting a break on the mound a day later, Melissa Lewis helped power Sequim (4-0 in league, 6-1 overall) to a 25-1 victory against the Klahowya Eagles.

Playing their second consecutive game at home that was originally slated to be on the road, the Wolves drubbed Eagle pitching for 23 hits.

Lewis came within a single of hitting for the cycle and finished with a team-high five RBIs. McKenzie Bentz was 4-for-5 with a double, triple and two RBIs while MaKayla Bentz had a double and triple.

Alexas Besand and Kaylee Gumm had home runs as 12 Wolves had hits in the game.

Lewis was sharp on the mound, striking out four and giving up one unearned run in three innings. Alysen Montileus worked two scoreless, hitless innings in relief.

Sequim gave up the lone Klahowya run in the first inning, then notched 10 runs in their half. Up 15-1 after three innings, the Wolves piled on another 10 in the fourth inning.

Sequim gets a respite with spring break before hitting the field on April 8 to host the Olympic Trojans (1-3 in league, 1-4 overall).
