Not nearly as much suspense in this rematch.
After the Knights gave Sequim’s fastpitch squad a scare in a 4-1 Sequim win on April 25, Sequim’s squad decided Monday’s Olympic League contest early. The Wolves’ offense scored runs in five of six innings — led by senior Alexas Besand’s single, double, home run and two RBIs — to knock off the visiting Bremerton squad 9-0.
Senior Makayla Bentz tossed seven innings of one-hit ball, striking out seven and walking five for the shutout, her fourth of the season.
Melissa Lewis helped fuel the Sequim offense with three hits and three RBIs, Olivia Kirsch was 2-for-4 with two steals and MaryLu CLift scored twice in the win.
Sequim is 13-2 in Olympic League play and 15-3 overall heading into Thursday’s showdown with league-leading Port Angeles (13-1, 13-3), the final regular season game for both squads. (The Roughriders played North Mason on May 6).
