It wasn’t easy, but Sequim got a victory in a matchup of league powers.

Mckenzie Bentz pitched all seven innings, sister Jordan Bentz had four hits and Kaylee Gumm had a two-run home run to break up a tie game as Sequim knocked off Olympic on April 22 in Silverdale.

Olympic jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning but Sequim rebounded with runs in the second and third innings. The Trojans’ Zoe Roberts tied the game at 2-2 with an RBI double in the fourth.

That set the table for Gumm in the fifth inning. Gumm, Sequim’s first baseman, followed Jordan Bentz’s single with a home run to left-center. Nicole Anders added an RBI double later in the inning to push the lead to 5-2.

The Wolves plated two more in the sixth inning, with Jordan Bentz knocking in a run on a single and another in the seventh on an RBI base hit from Emily Copeland.

Olympic had one last gasp in the bottom of the seventh, putting two on for Sage Scott, who drilled a three-run home run to right field with two outs to close the gap.

All five runs Mckenzie Bentz gave up were unearned; she struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter.

Anders finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and Chloe Sparks added two hits and scored twice.

Wolves KO Knights

The visiting Bremerton Knights managed just one hit against Sequim starter Mckenzie Bentz and the Wolves’ defense and Sequim whitewashed the Knights 10-0 in five innings on April 19.

Nicole Anders had a pair of doubles, including a two-RBI hit in Sequim’s nine-run third inning. Allysen Montelius went 2-for-3 with a double two RBIs and Sequim took advantage of six Bremerton errors.

Bentz was nearly unhitable on the mound, striking out seven and not issuing a walk in five shutout innings.

Looking ahead

Sequim was slated to take on Olympic at home on April 26 — results of the game were not available at press time.

The Wolves host rival Port Angeles today, April 27, and Kingston on April 29. Sequim rounds out the regular season with away dates at North Mason (May 3), Port Angeles (May 10) and Kingston (May 12).
