Waters West, 140 W. Front St., Port Angeles, hosts two different Intro to Fly Tying classes this winter.

All materials are provided, including tools and vises.

Classes cost $30 per person, are limited to six people and include five-plus hours of instruction.

For "Basic Trout Flies," the schedule is 3-5:30 p.m. and 6:30-

9 p.m. on Jan. 26, and the same hours on Feb. 2.

For "Basic Steelhead Flies," the schedule is 3-5:30 p.m. and 6:30-9 p.m. on Jan. 28, and the same hours on Feb. 4.

Waters West also hosts a free spey casting and fishing seminar Jan. 25 on the Hoh River. The seminar helps those new to spey fishing learn the basics of an efficient, enjoyable way of casting and helps advanced anglers get assistance from an expert. Those who just want to watch are invited as well. The seminar features numerous different rods, reels and lines available to try, plus casting demos performed throughout the day.

The spey casting and fishing seminar starts at 9 a.m. at Morgan’s Crossing, about seven-and-a-half miles up the Upper Hoh Road.

Waters West also hosts a series of free fly tying seminars each Saturday at 10 a.m. (see box).
