A dominant performance by River Ridge Monday night closed out Sequim’s 2014-2015 season.
River Ridge topped Sequim 59-30 on Feb. 16 in the consolation quarterfinals of the West Central District tournament.
Sequim (10-13) had kept its dreams of a state berth alive with a second round win over the Evergreen Eagles on Feb. 13.
Sequim upped its game in the district’s second round for a 40-23 win to eliminate the Eagles (12-10), who lost the opening round against the North Kitsap Vikings 55-18.
Caitlin Stofferahn stepped up her scoring to lead the Wolves with 12 followed by fellow senior Victoria Cummins with 11. Elise Beuke and Adrienne Haggerty both scored six apiece while Caroline Tupa led the Eagles with nine points.
The Wolves went up 9-5 at the end of the first quarter and pushed their lead to 21-13 at half time. They opened the second half strong outscoring the Eagles 13-6 in the third and 6-5 in the fourth.
The Lady Wolves rebounded from an opening round 66-28 loss on Feb. 11 to the White River Hornets (20-2).
Kendall Bird nearly outscored the Wolves herself with 23 points followed by 16 from Kristin Sturdivan.
Sequim was outplayed early down 11 (16-5) by the end of the first quarter and they finished the half down 35-8 at half time.
The Wolves couldn’t score in double digits until the fourth quarter (11) and were led by Kylee Williams with eight points and Stofferahn with six, who plays on the same club team as many of the Hornets’ players.
