Three Lady Wolves were named to the Olympic League All-League second team last week.

Seniors Caitlin Stofferahn and Victoria Cummins and sophomore Adrienne Haggerty made the list after Sequim finished 5-7 in the league and 10-13 and 1-2 in districts. It was their first districts win since 2008.

Stofferahn, who was coming off ACL surgery at the end of last season, led the Wolves with 9.7 points per game and grabbed three rebounds per game through the season.

“Caitlin helped us out so much,” head coach Evan Still said. “Getting her back was big. She’s a 6’1” player who can shoot from anywhere and finishes around the hoop well. If she played a full 20 games, she would be a shoe-in for first team.”

Cummins, a varsity player for three years, recorded 6.2 points per game and 3.5 points per game.

“Vicki is just solid,” Still said. “Everyone looked to her as the leader of the seniors and she had a big voice on the team. She stepped up to us in a big way, especially when we weren’t scoring the ball.”

Haggerty, who was a major factor for the Wolves off the bench, averaged 7.3 points per game, a team-high six rebounds per game and 1.5 steals per game.

She started two games this season, but Still said he wanted her to see some of the game first from the bench to help her.

“She’s a girl who could easily have started for anyone in the league,” he said. “Offensively, she is extremely gifted. It’s hard not to have her in the game. We’ve got to work with her on defense, especially with foul trouble, but she’s a pleasant surprise. I was expecting 2-4 points a game but had one game with 22.”

The Wolves went into districts as the Olympic League’s No. 5 seed but lost 66-28 to White River which remains in the running at the 2A state tournament this week. In the consolation bracket they defeated Evergreen 40-23 but lost to River Ridge 59-30, which also is at state this week.

This spring, Sequim loses six seniors to graduation — Alyse Armstrong, Elise Beuke, Cummins, Katherine Landoni, Hailey Lester and Stofferahn.

Still said the senior group is special and he’s fairly happy with how the team played.

“Our record isn’t where we wanted to be but overall our effort was there every night and we had fun,” he said. “The thing I’m most proud of is that they played hard every night. Coaches complimented them for it.”

Tentatively, the only full-time or part-time starters returning are McKenzie Bentz, Jordan Miller and Haggerty.

“It’ll be a whole new team next year,” Still said. “We tried to get the ball inside a lot this year and Adrienne and Ella (Christensen) are our post players and they can both step out and shoot, too.”

Still said it’s likely they’ll be more perimeter-based while looking inside as well.

“It’s tough to lose that experience level but we’ll try to have a busy summer schedule with as many camps and leagues as possible,” he said.

“The biggest thing for us is to get the six returning girls in the gym as much as possible. If we can get a solid 8-10 girls in the gym consistently, that’ll go a long ways.”
