Sequim’s playoff chances took a hit last week after a rough finish in regulation.
Kingston scored two goals in the final 11 minutes to knot up an Olympic League game in Sequim on Oct. 8, and after two scoreless overtime periods earned a 3-2 win on penalty kicks.
The Wolves looked to be in control after getting a Sasha Yada goal in the first half — looping a shot past a drawn in Buccaneer keeper — off an assist from Olive Bridge, and added a second score from Bella Rich, assisted by Raimey Brewer, in the second half.
But Kingston got the equalizers, with a score at 10:30 remaining and a header three minutes later, to force extra time.
Brewer, Yada and Kiley Winter all connected on their penalty kick attempts, but the Wolves missed on their third attempt to give third-place Kingston the advantage.
Sequim goalkeeper Kalli Grove made 12 saves in net.
The Wolves were scheduled to host North Mason on Oct. 10 but the game was twice postponed. SHS athletic director Ian Henley noted that the scheduled Thursday match-up was postponed because of a lack of referees to oversee the game — the Oct. 8 match saw just one referee, no sideline judges — and the next available date, Oct. 12, saw Sequim able to provide referees but North Mason was unable to field a team.
As of late last week, no make-up date had been announced.
Sequim was slated to take on Bainbridge on the road on Oct. 15; results were not available at press time.
Sequim plays Olympic at home on Oct. 17 and get a rematch with rival Port Angeles on Oct. 22, a game to be played at Peninsula College.
The Wolves are at North Kitsap on Oct. 25 before finishing the regular season at home against Bremerton on Oct. 29.
