A tough draw for Sequim in many other sports, the Roughriders were no match for Sequim’s tennis crew this season.
The Wolves made it a clean season sweep of Port Angeles with a 7-0 sweep at home on April 30. Sequim swept Port Angeles 7-0 on the road on March 28.
SHS’s Calleigh Thompson improved to 8-4 on the season and didn’t lose a point in topping PA’s Bridget Weed at No. 1 singles while Sequim’s Tiffany Lam, now 12-1, topped Emma Murray 6-1, 6-2. At No. 3 singles, SHS’s Amara Gonzalez ousted Audrey Rudd 6-0, 6-0, improving her singles mark to 8-2.
In doubles play, Dani Herman and Sydney Hegtvedt won in straight sets over Sarah Hancock and Abby Robinson (6-3, 6-1), as did Sequim’s Kendall Day and Sydney Thomas-Harris in a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles over Cayleigh Alward and Abby Riffle. Also earning wins for Sequim were Keira Morey and Payton Smithson at No. 3 doubles, and Azlyn Judd and Kristine Prorok at No. 4 doubles; that duo is 6-0 on the season.
With the win, Sequim closes out the regular season with a 9-4 record.
