The Spartans kept it much closer this time around, but a deep Sequim boys golf squad proved to be unbeatable — for the 57th consecutive match.
Ben Sweet led all players with a 2-under, nine-hole round of 34 as SHS defended its home course by topping 3A Bainbridge by seven shots (159-166) on April 21 at The Cedars at Dungeness.
Sweet earned birdies on the first, fifth and sixth holes.
“It was a solid round for Ben, yet it wasn’t anything spectacular,” Sequim coach Sean O’Mera said. “Ben has been working hardest on mindset, and today there is no doubt it paid off.”
Sweet went on to play a full 18, winding up with a 2-under 69.
Pryce Glasser was second with a score of 39 but played even better than the score implies, O’Mera noted, after several putts lipped out.
Rounding out Sequim’s third and fourth scorer were Dominic Riccobene’s four-over 40 and Cole Smithson’s 10-over 46.
Neither player had their best physical or mental games today, but there were still flashes,” O’Mera said.
Zack Thompson and Lars Wiker both shot 53 for the Wolves (3-0 in Olympic League, 7-0 overall).
Andrew Jobes and Justin Martin led Bainbridge with rounds of 41.
Results of the girls’ match with Bainbridge were not available.
