For one Sequim gymnast, the meet was a once-in-a-lifetime event. For another, it may be just the beginning.
Sequim High School’s Julie Pineau and Ennisa Albin capped their 2014-2015 prep gymnastics seasons at the class 1A/2A/3A state meet in Tacoma last weekend, joined by the Port Angeles Roughriders, their teammates during the regular season.
As an exchange student, Pineau of France made the most of her prep season by qualifying for state in three individual events. She placed 29th in the vault (out of 96 competitors) with an 8.425 mark, 63rd on floor (out of 97 competitors) with 8.325 points and 69th in bars (out of 96 competitors) with a 5.975 score.
Albin, a freshman at SHS, tied for 52nd (of 95 competitors) on the balance beam with a score of 7.525 points.
The Port Angeles squad finished seventh out of eight teams in the 2A/3A gymnastics state meet with 146.775 team points.
