Port Angeles’ gymnastics squad took first place at a 2A/3A sub-district meet Feb. 2 in Auburn, punching a ticket to the West Central District tourney set for Saturday.
They’ll have some company from a pair of Sequim athletes.
Elizabeth Sweet and Lesae Pfeffer, who practice and compete with the Riders during the regular season, each earned individual berths at districts and are one meet away from a spot at the state tourney.
Sweet advanced to districts on vault with a score of 7.6, and the floor exercise with a score of 7.5.
Pfeffer advanced to districts on the balance beam with her score of 6.65 and also advanced on the floor exercise with a 7.175-point effort.
Led by all-around runner-up athlete Maya Wharton (31.875 points), Port Angeles led all teams with 149.15 points. Timberline took the second team district berth with 140 points. Other schools competing were Bonney Lake, Capital, Kingston, North Thurston and North Kitsap.
