Mostly blue skies, sunshine and mild weather greeted hundreds of runners and walkers for the Railroad Bridge 5K/10K on April 23, the second of the Run the Peninsula 2022 race series.
And, like the first race of the year, the Larson family earned some hardware for their efforts.
Langdon Larson raced to a win in the 10-kilometer men’s division race while younger sister Leia won the women’s 5-kilometer division, repeating their wins from the Elwha Bridge Run that kicked off the peninsula-wide series on Feb. 5.
“I really liked it,” Langdon Larson said of the course. “Nice and flat.”
He said his goal was to earn a personal best — which he did, in 35 minutes flat.
Miguel Higuera of Port Angeles was second (39:20).
Katherine Braun of Port Angeles won the women’s 10K in 47:32, good for seventh overall.
Leia Larson finished her 5K in 21:37, good for second overall behind Jesse Tsai of Brier, the men’s winner, in 17:49. Sequim’s Jackson Laboy was fourth (22:33).
Benjamin Stein of Sequim was sixth in the 10K (47:12).

Langdon said he and family members plan to race as a relay, as they did in 2021, for the North Olympic Discovery Marathon in early June.
The races at Railroad Bridge Park were the fourth annual, with one held virtually because of COVID restrictions.
More than 330 runners completed the races. A total of 173 runners completed the 5K, while another 166 finished the 10K.
“Fantastic day for a run,” race director Victoria Jones said as 10K runners and walkers trickled in to the finishing line Saturday.
“This [race] has one of the most beautiful start/finish lines,” Jones said, of the park’s historic railroad bridge structure. “I love to see [the runners] in this long finish line chute.”
She said a number of volunteers were on hand to make the Sequim race happen, including members of the Port Angeles High School football team (handing out medals) and Olympic Discovery Trail volunteers (course helpers).
“We have a great group of volunteers and board members who make it possible.”
The event is put on by the Port Angeles Marathon Association, the same group that manages the North Olympic Discovery Marathon in June in Port Angeles. This event is made possible by title sponsors Peninsula Daily News & Sequim Gazette, presenting sponsors Olympic Medical Center and Sound Community Bank.
The North Olympic Discovery Marathon is set for June 4-5 in Sequim and Port Angeles, with full marathon run, walk and relay options, a half-marathon, OMC 5K/10K and Kids Marathon race options. See nodm.com for more information or to register.
