While winter weather was postponing or canceling some tournaments, Peninsula’s men and other squads at the Highline Crossover were able to complete their three-game round robin series.
Good thing for the Pirates, too. PC won two of three at the Crossover held Dec. 16-18 in Highline, the team’s final games of 2016.
In the opener, Darrion Daniels scored 17 points and Cole Rabedeaux added 12 points and 10 rebounds off the bench in a 71-48 win against the host Highline Thunderbirds.
Peninsula was sharp from 3-point range (10-of-26) and played stingy defense, holding Highline to just 16-of-52 (31 percent) shooting from the field.
Austin Anderson led Highline with 13 points.
On Dec. 17, Peninsula couldn’t dig itself out of a nine-point halftime deficit in a 78-71 loss to the Yakima Valley Yaks.
Daniels led the Pirates with 17 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Teammate Kevin Baker added 11 points and 10 rebounds and Rabedeaux had 14 points.
Max Jones led Yakima Valley with 16 points.
In the crossover final, Peninsula out-gunned Chemeketa in a high-scoring overtime affair, 108-103.
Daniels once again led the Pirates, nearly racking up a triple-double with 26 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists. Alex Baham hit five 3-pointers off the bench for 22 total points, while Baker, Rabedeaux, Zach Day and Omar Lo had 11 points apiece.
Collin Huun led the Storm with 38 points.
