New Peninsula College men’s soccer coach Cale Rodriguez saw some positives in a pair of preseason scrimmages against four-year schools last weekend in Canada.
The Pirates fell 6-0 to the University of Victoria on Aug. 15 and 2-0 to Vancouver Island University on Aug. 16.
“These two exhibition games were extremely beneficial for our guys to play two quality opponents after a couple of days of training,” Rodriguez said. “These games don’t count, but we wanted to challenge ourselves and play two good teams that would expose some of our deficiencies at this point in the season.”
Peninsula is off the pitch until Aug. 29 and Aug. 30, when they take on Walla Walla and Highline in a pair of non-conference games in Eugene, Ore.
“We were able to see a lot of guys in their first collegiate games and play guys in different positions to see what we have to work with moving forward,” Rodriguez said of Peninsula’s scrimmages. “There are many positives to take away but certainly we have a lot of work to do.”
