Peninsula’s Pirates scored their third consecutive victory when they shut out winless

Skagit Valley 4-0 at home Sept. 26.

Already up 1-0 after an Omar Anderson score, Ernest Boham tied a Peninsula record with his goal 25 minutes in, giving the Pirates a 2-0 lead at halftime. Boham tied Seth Ransom’s career mark with 16 goals as a Pirate.

Teagan Cambier scored Peninsula’s third goal just three minutes into the second half from Sam Greely; Greely got his own score at the 63-minute mark off an assist from John Troka to cap the scoring.

Jase Hall recorded the shutout in goal, his second and the team’s fourth of the season.

"The team moved the ball well, creating a lot of chances and just missing the goal on five other opportunities," Peninsula coach Andrew Chapman said. "We still need to do a better job of putting the ball in the back of the net."

The Pirates also racked up a shutout when they scored seven unanswered goals in a 7-0 thrashing of Olympic Sept. 24 in Port Angeles.

Erik Dolphin led six different scorers with two second-half scores while Cambier had a score and an assist as the Pirates blew away the NWAACC West’s last-place squad from Bremerton.

As dark clouds opened up to blue skies and a rainbow midway through the first half, Peninsula’s Luis Medrano took a pass from Cambier and sent a rainbow of his own from 30 yards to beat Ranger keeper Dustin Gessang, putting the Pirates up 1-0.

Buck Kunz had a shot on goal seven minutes later, crossing the ball to Sean Gaskins, who headed it in for a 2-0 Pirate advantage.

That was the score early in the second half until Cambier (49 minutes) and Cory Matthews (56 minutes) truly put the game out of reach.

Dolphin added his goals at 65 and 68 minutes, and Boham, the Pirates’ leading scorer in 2007, found the net with eight minutes remaining.

Goalkeeper Alec Risk picked up Peninsula’s third shutout of the season, recording three saves.
