Port Angeles Halibut Derby set for this weekend, May 23-24

The Port Angeles Halibut Derby, held since 2001, is slated for May 23-24 at the Port Angeles Yacht Club.

The largest halibut weighed-in in the derby sponsored by the Port Angeles Salmon Club wins $5,000, with about $20,000 in prizes going to participants.Cost is $40 per angler and everyone in boats must be registered in the derby that’s held from daylight until 2 p.m. each day.

Fishing will be contained in Marine Area 6 (Eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca), from Low Point to the west and the Dungeness Spit to the east.

The weigh-in will be held at the West Boat Haven Ramp and Docks, and all fish must be brought in by water.
