Boys soccer
At home or away, Sequim seems to have Port Angeles’ number.
The Wolves jumped to a 2-0 lead early in the second half and held off a comeback by their peninsula rivals with a late score by Ron Welches in a 3-1 win on April 19.
Omar Flores opened the scoring at 29 minutes off an Eli Berg feed to give Sequim a 1-0 halftime lead. Mason Barrett made it 2-0 off a Welches assist. Port Angeles halved that lead when Miki Andrus netted a score in the 58th minute, but Flores set up Welches with the game-clincher two minutes later.
Sequim is 2-0 against the Roughriders this season.
Sequim (6-3-1) was slated to take on Klahowya on April 16 — results were not available at press time. The Wolves host Bremerton on April 18.
Girls tennis
These Wolves aren’t perfect — but their record is, so far.
Sequim improved to 4-0 in Olympic League play and 6-0 overall after dropping just one match in a 6-1 home win against North Mason on April 10.
Anna Prorok, Hilary Smith and Hannah Gauthun each won singles matches while Karen Chan and Melanie Guan didn’t drop a point in No. 1 doubles action.
Two days prior, Sequim earned a similar, 6-1 victory against North Kitsap. Prorok, Smith and Gauthun each won in singles play. Anna Mittman and Kortney Oen won in doubles play, as did Tenisha Powless and Andrea Tjemsland.
An April 12 matchup against Kingston was rained out. Sequim was scheduled to play Port Townsend on April 15 — results were not available at press time. The Wolves are back on the court April 19 at Bremerton.
Golf
Sequim’s links crew had little trouble in dispatching foe North Mason on April 11 at The Cedars at Dungeness golf course in Sequim.
On the boys’ side, Travis Priest shot a best 82 for medalist honors, followed closely by Jack Shea (83), Ty Jones (84) and Anthony Pinza (85), and Sequim (4-1-0) topped the Bulldogs by 81 shots (426 to 507).
With North Mason bringing just one golfer, Sequim’s girls picked up an easy win. Maddy Fisher took top honors with a 46-stroke finish in nine holes, followed by Elisa Sallee (51), Caitlin Stofferahn (54) and Brianna Kettel (57).
Sequim’s girls (4-1-0) earned a split the day before, topping Kingston but falling to North Kitsap by 10 shots. Fisher and Sallee paced the Wolves with rounds of 51 each.
Sequim’s golf squads both improved to 5-1 with convincing wins against Port Townsend Monday afternoon.
On the boys’ side, Matt Cays took medalist honors with a round of 89, followed by teammates Jack Shea (92), Travis Priest (97), Alex McCracken (98) and Ty Jones (99). Sequim topped the Redskins, 465 strokes to 506.
Sequim’s girls earned an easy win after Port Townsend was unable to field a complete team. Brianna Kettel shot a 56 for medalist honors, backed by Elisa Sallee’s 57. Caitlin Stofferahn shot a 58, including her first birdie of the season.
