A total of 60 teams and two brave individual racers competed in the Frosty Moss Team Relay on Saturday, Feb. 26.
The Frosty Moss, an endurance relay race from the Sol Duc Valley along the Olympic Discovery Trail and Olympic Discovery Trail Adventure Route to Blyn, is 80 miles long with 15 stages over both paved and unpaved trails. It’s the first in a series of endurance and adventure races sponsored throughout the year by Peninsula Adventure Sports.
There was also a shorter “Mini Moss” 30-mile race from Ediz Hook to Blyn.
A total of 42 teams began the full Frosty Moss and 41 finished. The races were broken up into two separate categories — one for four to five team members and the other for two to three team members.
In the four-five team race, Legs Miserables won with a time of 9 hours, 28 minutes, 22.6 seconds. Limax Trax came in second with a time of 9:50:08 and Positive Drainage was third at 10:01:12.1.
In the two-three team race, Ruck Yeah took first (and had the second-best time in either category) at 9:49:39.9. Frosty Bushwhackers was second at 10:05:34.9 and There, Their, They’re was third at 10:09:13.7.
In the Mini Moss, 18 teams competed. The Sloth Racing Team won with a time of 3:49:57.1, while Bunny’s Pizzeria was second at 3:54:41.6 and We Goat This was third at 4:09:35.6.
There was also a prize for the most mediocre team, the team that finished closest to the middle of the pack; that went to J.U.G.S., which had a time of 12:09:51.6 and came in 21st place. And the Last Slug Standing award went to 4 Non Blondes, which came in last, but did finish the grueling race at 15:57:04.7.
The winner of the individual 50k was Chris Fields with a time of 5:15:08.5. Shelly Bell finished the individual race in 6:24:49.5.
Other prizes include best team theme/costume — Slugsicles; best exchange zone, the Sequim Cross Country Team at Carrie Blake Park. Slugiscles were also winners of the #frostymoss2022 prize basket.
The next Peninsula Adventure Sports event is the Olympic Adventure Trail Run on April 16. This is a 50k, half-marathon and 12k trail race that traverses Kelly Ridge between Olympic National Park and the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
