The 28th Saundra Kent Memorial Tournament returns to Erickson Park courts at Fourth and Race streets in Port Angeles the first two weekends of August.

As in past years there will be separate tournaments for singles and senior doubles the first weekend (Aug. 2-4) and men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles the second weekend (Aug. 9-11).

Registration deadline for the singles and senior doubles (60 and older) is by 5 p.m. July 28. Singles is $25 per event (or $20 per for Peninsula Tennis Club members).

Entries for men’s, women’s and mixed doubles is by 5 p.m., Aug. 4. Cost is $40 per team (or $30 per for PTC members).

The tournament is named after Saundra Kent, a Port Angeles high school graduate who was one of the first recipients of a scholarship sponsored by Peninsula Tennis Club. After a year in college, Kent was diagnosed with leukemia and died soon after.

The annual tournament helps pay for scholarships awarded by the club to Sequim and Port Angeles High School seniors.

Competition is organized on United States Tennis Association player ratings. It includes categories from 3.0-5.0. Doubles teams sign up with the combined rating of both players, although tournament organizers place participants at appropriate levels.

Players may enter no more than two events per weekend. All matches are best-of-three-sets with regular scoring.

A 2013 club membership is $10 for students, $20 for individuals and $30 for families. If dues are included with entry forms, entrants may apply club discounts.
