The wind wasn’t the only thing blowing away North Kitsap golfers last week.

Sequim’s Wolves made quick work of their Viking foes from Poulsbo on April 8 at The Cedars at Dungeness course, sweeping both boys’ and girls’ matches with ease.

Zoei Zbaraschuk and the Sequim girls topped NK 108-41. The senior shot a nine-hole round of 40 for 33 Stableford points, followed by teammate Kim Duce with 26 points. Lisa Doan and Hailey Estes with 20 Stableford points each and Ashley Morton added nine.

It was Sequim’s best team scoring since the 2007 season.

"The weather conditions were pretty awful with gusts of winds at around 30 miles per hour but it didn’t seem to bother the girls," Sequim coach Garrett Smithson said. "These are the days that make coaching that much more enjoyable. All the girls have been working extremely hard on their games and it is showing."

Karin Mogley was North Kitsap’s top golfer with a round of 58 for 15 points.

Sequim’s girls are now 3-0.

On the boys’ side, Ryan O’Mera led the Wolves with an 18-hole round of 75 for 33 Stableford points as Sequim crushed North Kitsap 122-40.

Steve Loerlein (25 points), Casey Torres (24), Jake Dethlefsen (22), Ezra Perkins (18) and Mallory Maloney (15) rounded out Sequim’s strong top five.

Sequim coach Vic Quinet said he has a slogan to help thwart windy conditions: When it’s breezy, swing easy.

"Some of the holes were a three-club difference going into the wind," Quinet said.

Sequim’s boys are 3-0 in league play and 5-0 overall.

The Wolves are at Kingston on April 15 and host Port Townsend on April 20.

"Next week is a key week," Quinet said, noting that the Buccaneers topped a solid Port Angeles team earlier this season.

"We’ve just got to up our expectations as the season goes on," Quinet said.
